While the images used on your business’s social media are incredibly important – your captions are equally as important!
While captions don’t seem like a big deal on platforms such as Instagram, where images are the focus, a great caption can really benefit your brand. Combining compelling captions with aesthetic photos is the key to sharing your voice and brand, boosting your audience’s engagement, and attracting new customers!
So how do you write great captions?
A great caption is simply one that provides context, shows off your brand personality, and inspires your audience to take action.
I know what you’re thinking – “but how exactly do I do that?”
Keep reading, the recipe for the perfect caption is easier than you think!
Step One: A Head-Turning First HOOK
Your captions first line should be engaging, attention-grabbing, and head turning! This is what customers see first, this is what will dictate whether they decide to read the rest of your post or just pass right along.
You could capture your customer’s attention with an engaging question, inform them of an intriguing fact, tell them about an amazing offer, or trigger an emotional response by being relatable! Whatever you choose to write – the goal is to pique interest, so your followers are inclined to read the entire caption and feel compelled to engage!
Step Two: Inform with the MEAT
This part doesn’t have to be as fancy – this is where you’ll add what you want to share. This can be something you’d like to teach your followers, tips about things within your industry, telling an interesting story, or talk about your offer.
The key for this part is adding in line breaks. Long captions without these are hard to digest, often people will get easily discouraged and just keep scrolling. Adding line breaks will keep them easy to digest and keep your followers interested.
Put a break in-between each ‘paragraph’, with each caption being three ‘paragraphs’ or more. Paragraph one is your first line, paragraph two is the body, and paragraph three is your conclusion. If your body is longer, break that up too. And if you are making a list, add emojis for bullet points and add break in-between those too!
Step Three: Call-To-Action INVITATION
Include a CTA at the end of your posts, instead of ending abruptly – this is the best way to increase shares of your posts and engagement from your followers! Ending with these action verbs will actually prompt them to do something, instead of just scrolling by.
You probably already know the typical CTA’s, “link in bio”, or “like if you agree” – but you could also ask your followers a question that relates to your caption, invite people to share their own stories, share their favorite products, or invite them to share with their friends!
